Clinton Vs. Palin

advertisement

. Recently a colleague, an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter to the bitter end, commented that can bet with certainty that the Obama campaign is now having major regrets he didn't tap Hillary Clinton to be his running mate given the female factor, and that Palin is apparently having major sway with women voters.

Hmmm! I doubt there is any way they could win that bet. Even if Obama had any inclination of including Clinton on his team it became a practicable impossibility once supporters like my colleague began making it a non negotiable demand. It would not make Obama look very presidential if he were seen to cave into demands from a vested interest group. Choosing a team of rivals as Lincoln did is one thing but having your rival forced down your throat is quite another.

My Clinton supporting colleague seems to be a little off the mark about the female factor in terms of Palin. According to surveys done by MSNBC women are not flocking to Palin. It is men. Why that might be so is an interesting question. Is it her physical attractiveness as some argue? Hopefully we would not vote for president on the basis of looks alone although it was reported that women voted for Kennedy over Nixon because of looks so who knows? Is it the myth and nostalgia of the coming from a more rural and simpler lifestyle in Alaska as Time Magazine suggests? Or is it simply that she is the Un-Hillary and many men would consider a woman for president but not Hillary Clinton with all her baggage including her husband.

It's difficult to tell. However unless Sara Palin self destructs or some truly devastating dirt is dug up on her past the she is a contender whether or not McCain /Palin win this November. If she is the Vice President she is in a very good position to run for president in 2012 if McCain does not run again or in 2016 if he does. If Obama wins, Palin can still run in 2012 . She will be better known and will be able to claim more experience on the national stage either way.

Therefore it is a highly likely possibility that in either 2012 or 2016 we will have two women running for president, Clinton v. Palin. It sure will be interesting. Will Clinton's famed 18 million voters remain loyal or will some gravitate to Palin? In a Clinton vs. Palin race how who will blue collar voters choose? Where will the men go? Catholics?

Who would I vote for? I honestly don't know. Palin's political views frighten me. Clinton scares the hell out of me. And, as you can see from the picture I don't frighten that easily.
